Youth have made their voices heard: they want better access to voting. And Elections Canada has listened, increasing efforts to make voting accessible. Northern leaders, including veteran Northwest Territories politician David Ramsay. 

This course focuses on the challenges that those new to Canada and its electoral system say they face. By identifying some of those barriers, Elections Canada has begun to address them. This course features video clips from northern leaders like former Liberal MP for Nunavut Nancy Karetak-Lindell

Voting Matters! A lunch-and-learn

National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) and Elections Canada are hosting a virtual lunch-and-learn via Zoom on the many ways you can vote and play a role in the democratic process!

Voting is an incredibly important way to be heard by leaders in your community. If you are unsure of the voting process, or what is needed for you to vote, this session will answer all your questions.

This event is open to any eligible urban Indigenous voters. The first 25 registrants to our session will receive a complimentary Uber Eats gift card at the end of the session as a token of appreciation for attending.

Elections Canada will make a brief presentation on the voting process and different forms of voting and will take questions from the audience.

Through Elections Canada, ilinniapaa is offering a free online course to help Northerners who want to run in the election understand the process. This online course provides crucial and easy-to-understand information on the candidacy process from Elections Canada. We feature video clips from experienced Nunavut, NWT and Yukon voices, including former Nunavut MP Nancy Karetak-Lindell. You'll learn not just the ins-and-outs of the requirements but also the potential personal impact on you, your community and your family. Elections Canada & Rivers to Success Workshop Series. The second installment of our series in partnership with Elections Canada will help Indigenous youth understand the available options for participating in a federal election. This workshop will highlight resources that available to help First Nations, Inuit and Metis youth understand what is involved with voting, working and running in a federal election. A guest speaker from Elections Canada will be sharing some helpful information, resources and toolkits as well as answering questions from attendees.

This "train-the-trainer" workshop is for YMCA program managers and community leaders in different parts of Canada. It aims to walk them through the resources available on Inspire Democracy website, and training others to use and access the resources.

The Leaders Debates offers the only chance that Canadians have to see all major political party leaders go head-to-head live. Is it pure political theater or a genuine opportunity for Canadians to learn more about the parties policy positions and leaders' capabilities? Join two seasoned journalists, one now responsible for organizing the debates and another a former debate moderator, for a lively conversation about the role of debates and the broader question of how we help new voters make informed decisions during an election.
We will explore the challenges associated with making an informed choice during elections in an age of disinformation, social media overload and political campaigns that reward platitudes over substance. And offer practical tips for first time voters who find themselves frustrated by the whole experience.

By the end of the event you will have the tools and know-how to help your community members prepare and plan for their voting journey.

The June 9 session will be about registering and voting in a federal election, including overcoming barriers, and staying safe while voting in case an election would be called during the pandemic.

On June 16-17, 2021, the Alliance for Healthier Communities primary health care conference, Power in Community, will take place online for the first time. Elections Canada will participate with a digital booth, including information about our Inspire Democracy program, and the newly updated toolkits.

The May 10 session focused on working at a federal election, including information on what paid positions are typically available, and how to apply for them. It also covered safety and health, in case of an election being called during the pandemic.

Trying to find ways to engage your community members in democracy? How about encouraging them to work at the next federal election? There will be more than 280,000 paid jobs available with Elections Canada. On April 30, 2021, the agency will be hosting an event on working at a federal election.

The event will feature the newly updated Inspire Democracy toolkit on recruitment, which includes the health and safety measures that will be in place to keep election workers safe. You will also find out about the different jobs we're staffing and how to apply for them. Representatives from Elections Canada's Recruitment team will be there to share tips and take questions.
